Leveraging Industry – Academia Partnership for Societal Development

Industry – Academia collaborations promote technology advancement and innovation. India having a youthful technology savvy population ready to utilise its knowledge in tackling significant problems affecting crucial industries like Healthcare, Digitization, Pharma & Biotech, Energy, Semiconductors & IT Hardware. There is a need to increase the Industry – Academia collaborative outreach to other sectors as well including labour intensive sectors like textiles, construction, etc.

As the need for delivering best quality products in short time in the highly competitive market is gaining pace, the need for industry – academia collaboration is also gaining momentum. The reason being limited manpower strength and absence of full fledged R&D departments in Small & Medium companies or large companies having R&D Departments where employees are more engaged in product enhancement efforts and cannot spare sufficient time on new product development. One way to address this challenge is going for collaborative research with academia which will not only address this issue but it will be a exposure for faculty and students of the institute real time industry issues. In the long run such collaborations go a long way in improving the course curriculum, improved industry funding for research, improvement in faculty pedagogical skills, better industry ready students for academic institutions. Besides, it also builds trust and transparency between academia and industry.

In this context, with the objective to deliberate on industry – academia collaborations for the labour intensive sectors, building robust R&D ecosystem,technology innovation & economic growth, as a catalyst for improving QS World rankings besides leveraging National Research Fund for addressing future technological challenges; CII is organising the 13th Higher Education Summit with the theme Leveraging Industry – Academia partnership for Societal Development on 16 December 2023,at India Habitat Center, New Delhi.
